INTERVIEW: Drago Jančar
Drago Jančar - writer, playwright, essayist, journalist - belongs to the very top of contemporary slovenian literature. His readers and viewers are impressed by his works both at home and abroad, and numerous domestic and international awards attest to the quality of his extensive literary work. He also holds the attention of an audience with his critical social observations and with them he has carefully succeeded in bringing fresh air to Slovenian social realms a number of times.
Drago Jančar was born on April the 13th in 1948 in Maribor, where he studied and worked between 1971 and 1974 as a journalist of the newspaper Večer and weekly 7D (Seven days). He was arrested in 1974 because of the »dissemination of hostile propaganda« and the cause was the Branko Rozman book V Rogu ležimo pobiti ( In Rog we lie murdered) brought from Austria. He spent three months in a prison and then the same year he was sent to the military service in Serbia. Between 1974 and 1978 he was a freelance artist, then for two years the film dramaturg for Viba films. In 1981 he accepted the job of editor and secretary for the publishing house Slovenska matica (Slovenian Literary Society), where he still works today.

Drago Jančar - escritor, dramaturgo, ensayista, publicista - está situado en el cenit de la literatura eslovena contemporánea. Sus lectores y espectadores - tanto en Eslovenia como en el extranjero - hablan maravillas de sus obras, que en gran número reciben premios literarios nacionales e internacionales. También llaman la atención sus escritos en los que con ojo crítico observa la actualidad social. Muchas veces consigue con ellos que se renueven los aires de la sociedad eslovena.
Drago Jančar nació el 13 de abril de 1948 en Maribor, donde estudió y trabajó como periodista en el diario Večer y en el semanario 7 dni. En 1974 lo encarcelaron por "distribución de propaganda enemiga": de Austria se trajo el libro de Branko Rozman V Rogu ležimo pobiti (Yacemos asesinados en Rog). Estuvo en la cárcel tres meses, siendo llamado en el mismo año a cumplir con el servicio militar en Serbia. Entre los años 1974 y 1979 trabajó como artista independiente y luego dos años como guionista en el estudio cinematográfico de Viba film en Ljubljana. En 1981 aceptó el cargo de redactor y secretario de la editorial Slovenska matica y allí sigue en la actualidad.

INTERVIEW: M.Sc., Dimitrij Piciga, director of Slovenian Tourism Organisation (STO)
Summer is almost here and with it long, hot holidays. Some of you have already made plans about where to go on holiday this year, while the others think only of the numbers and data of the economic crisis, recession, saving and how to stretch family income. Do you wonder what aeffect the world economic crisis will have on the tourist season in Slovenia? We talked about this with Dimitrij Piciga, director of Slovenian Tourism Organisation (STO), who said, among other things, »We remain optimistic about the announcements of this year`s tourist season. In comparison with the last year we predict the decline of a demand for 3 to 4%, what would be a good result, according to the general market situation.«

Estamos a las puertas del verano y con él llegan los días calurosos. Algunos ya hicieron sus planes para veranear, otros hacen cálculos, piensan en los datos de la crisis económica y la recesión, en cómo ahorrar y disponer de las entradas familiares. ¿Y cómo influirá la crisis económica mundial en la temporada turística eslovena? De ello conversamos con el director de la Organización turística eslovena (STO) Dimitrij Piciga, que entre otras cosas dijo: "Mantenemos el optimismo de los pronósticos para la actual temporada turística. En comparación con la temporada del año pasado estimamos una baja del tres al cuatro por ciento, que para las condiciones generales del mercado sería un buen resultado."

Discovery of mass burial place in mineshaft at Huda jama in Laško
In the beginning of March the Slovene public was greatly shocked by the discovery of a mass burial place in the mineshaft of St. Barbara at Huda jama in Laško dating from the time of the Second World War. An investigation had begun last year in August, because the location was on a governmental commission's list of suspected secret burial places. Since then officials have been removing concrete barriers and road metal, which had been concealing the burial site. The head of the agency in charge of war burial places, Marko Štrovs estimated, that from 200 to 300 corpses in a third mineshaft were those, for which there had not been enough space in two other mineshafts, each with more than 100 corpses. The discovered corpses are without visible signs of gunshot wounds, so it is presumed, that the victims died from being gased or suffocated. There is an ongoing investigation as to the identity of the victims, but, according to some statements, they might be Slovenes from Teharje camp in the vicinity of the German and Croatian prison camps. The remains will be transferred to the Teharje ossuary after the forensic and medical analyses are completed. The holy mass for the homocide victims in this mineshaft, celebrated by the archbishop msgr. Anton Stres from Maribor, was held on a quiet Sunday on the 29th of March, in the archparish church of St. Martin in Laško.

Descubren una fosa común en una mina abandonada de Huda jama en Laško
La opinión pública eslovena se vio conmocionada a principios del mes de marzo por la fosa descubierta en la mina de Santa Bárbara en Huda jama, Laško. Las tareas de excavación comenzaron en agosto del año pasado, ya que el lugar estaba en la lista de la comisión gubernamental para la resolución de los problemas relacionados con los entierros encubiertos. Desde esa fecha estuvieron demoliendo las barreras de concreto y sacando el material acumulado que impedía el acceso a las tumbas. El jefe del sector encargado de las fosas militares, Marko Štrovs, considera que en la mina puede haber entre 200 y 300 cadáveres. En los cuerpos encontrados no se observaron heridas de balas por los que se presume que habrían muerto por asfixia. La investigación acerca de la identidad de las víctimas sigue en curso, pero, según algunas fuentes, se trataría de eslovenos provenientes de los campos de concentración de Teharje y de algunos alemanes y de presos croatas. Una vez terminado el procedimiento forense los restos mortales serían trasladados al osario de Teharje. El 29 de marzo el arzobispo de Maribor, monseñor Anton Stres, ofició una misa por el descanso de estas almas en la iglesia de san Martín de Laško.

An interview: Štefka Drolc, prize-winner of this year`s Prešeren Award for lifework
At this year`s Prešeren Awards celebration, on the eve of Slovenia's cultural holiday in the Cankarjev dom (Cankar`s house), actress Ana Štefanija Drolc and painter Zmago Jeraj became prize-winners of this year`s Prešeren Awards for their lifework. A great honor for Štefka Drolc, the Prešeren Award is the most prized cultural award in the country. This award by the Government of Slovenia and the Ministry of Culture recognizes her magnificent and extensive artistic lifework, in the realms of theatre, film, radio and television, as well as her academic cultural mission. At Ljubljana`s Performing Arts Theater we spoke to the immensely warm, kind and vigorous 85-year-old, about her exceedingly productive life and work.

ENTREVISTA: Štefka Drolc, ganadora del premio Prešeren a la trayectoria.
En la fiesta de Prešeren de este año, que ha tenido lugar en la víspera de la fiesta en el centro cultural Cankar, han obtenido el premio a la trayectoria el pintor Zmago Jeraj y la actriz Ana Štefanija Drolc. La actriz Štefka Drolc ha obtenido este reconocimiento en el ámbito de la cultura de parte del estado esloveno y del Ministerio de cultura por su gran repertorio actoral, por su trayectoria en el teatro, el cine, la radio y la televisión, por su labor pedagógica y por ser embajadora de la cultura. Con la señora Drolc, una mujer infinitamente cálida, amable y vivaz de 85 años, hemos mantenido una charla en el teatro de Ljubljana acerca de su vida y de su obra, sumamente interesantes.
